Historique

The Republic of Burundi, like other developing countries, faces organisational and structural challenges across development sectors. The 2025 Human Development Index (HDI) places Burundi among the least developed countries.

Wishing to contribute to the initiatives of the Burundian government, which has undertaken numerous development efforts to empower local communities to take responsibility for their own development, the founding members met in Bujumbura on 25 July 2025 around a shared ideal: to help vulnerable populations thrive and improve their well-being and development. Their discussions focused particularly on people with low incomes, orphans, prisoners, older people, people with disabilities, street children, people living with HIV/AIDS, and disadvantaged women and girls.

They expressed their determination to reduce poverty and gender-based violence through awareness-raising, prevention and support for victims, promoting their social and economic inclusion by ensuring access to basic services (health and education) and social integration, with respect for human dignity, equality, solidarity and freedom as fundamental values.

They recognise that health and education underpin individual and collective well-being and help address the inequalities and prejudices faced by different population groups, in support of the many efforts of the Burundian government and national and international partners.

With reference to the legal framework governing non-profit associations in Burundi, the founding members decided to establish a non-profit development association named Generation Organized for Development, abbreviated GOD, to support the many efforts undertaken by the Burundian state and work with national and international partners, placing the association at the heart of grassroots development to build a better world.

A committee led by five people was elected to put the association’s vision into practice. On 28 October 2025, the Government of Burundi, through the Minister of the Interior, Public Security and Community Development, signed the ministerial order granting official recognition to our association.
